Sarah was a returning client who was undergoing a massive brand update since we had last taken her photos. For this project, I worked side-by-side with both her graphic designers and a stylist to make sure that her new brand was being communicated cohesively. The result is Quotable Copy, a bold copywriting agency with an editorial vibe right out of the pages of a 90s magazine.
Sarah's brand was clean, cute, and professional–all good things, but not what she wanted as she worked to rebrand. She wanted her photos to help her stand out more and come across more sophisticated as her brand got an updated look.
A big-city copywriter with a small-town approach–that was the goal. Sarah wanted potential clients to find her site and immediately be impressed by a copywriter who knows her stuff, but is still approachable and down-to-earth.
Sarah wanted an editorial, high-end vibe for her clients to attract a different level of client. She wanted to make sure she had a gallery large enough to use on her website, social, and marketing for years to come.
Sarah worked with Cember Creative on the design portion of her rebrand, so they sent over a mood board and I was GIDDY at the vibe. I dug into Sarah's brand via her current digital presence, as well as direction from the agency. Cember's Pinterest board was a great jumping off point to gather inspo photos to start our shot list.
Sarah's keywords strongly influenced the direction of the shoot. We wanted her photos to exude boldness, with an editorial/80s/90s vibe. With the help of the design agency and my stylist, we compiled a shot list that showed Sarah's edgy-yet-approachable style, bold beliefs, and big-city copywriter energy.
When pulling ideas for movement and posing, I focused on concepts that showed boldness and and editorial style. I worked with my stylist to gather posing inspiration that utilized interesting props, like a collection of magazines and newspapers, stacks of books, and even some fire.
Since the shoot demanded editorial vibes, we knew a studio would be the perfect spot. We also wanted some shots throughout the city and downtown. Since Quotable Copy is 80s/90s-inspired, we found our way into a record store for a few images.
Wardrobe was huge in communicating Sarah's brand goals, and my stylist, Leslie, absolutely killed it. I loved the white button-down with letters–absolutely perfect for a writer! We also used vintage graphic tees and lots of denim. Honestly, wardrobe was a slam dunk.
"When I was looking for brand photography for my business, I knew I had to hire Maddie! She is both professional and personable; she made the whole process so smooth and fun. I’m completely obsessed with my photos — she totally nailed my vibe and even went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. I couldn’t recommend Maddie enough!"
Maybe you’ve been using the same headshot forever, and that yearbook-style backdrop is really killing your vibe. Or maybe you wish your marketing looked less like posing for selfies and more like showing up intentionally, with photos that help move the needle in your business forward. Or maybe there’s just something missing from the way you build relationships with your clients online. You’re craving less fake and more Jim-to-your-Pam connections and inside jokes with your audience.
