B&G is an iconic Sioux Falls brand, and the new Cliff Street location was in need of lifestyle and food photography as they opened their doors. The store owners wanted to show a feeling of nostalgia and good ol' days, as as well as photography food items for the menu board.
The Cliff Street location boasts an incredible patio area for all ages to hang out. Lifestyle photos would help call attention to the ice cream and food, but more importantly, the moments that happen over ice cream and food. We worked with actual customers as models and kept things organic.
B&G Milkyway has been around forever. So many people grew up going to B&G and now take their kids. We wanted to show a sense of nostalgia for the good ol' days in the photos, to evoke those memories, even though this store was new.
The owners of the store found themselves needing photos of their food items to add to the menu board, as well as sales materials for the catering side of the business. We didn't want styled food photography, but still wanted to show the food items.
I was quite familiar with B&G, but I checked out their current website and social media to get a better idea of the types of things they talked about in their current marketing. There was an understandable emphasis on products, so we wanted to make sure those were still part of the story even when using models.
I leaned heavily on B&G's brand keywords when creating the shot list: nostalgic, fun, happy, carefree. I found images of old-school style drive-in food in plastic baskets with red and white checked paper that was used as inspiration for the food photos.
Having people in these shots would be a huge change for the brand, and it was a huge part of our shoot. We worked with actual customers of B&G, using grandparents, little kids, and pre-teens in the shots. These groups of people represented key demographics for the store, and made for some great shots.
Maybe you’ve been using the same headshot forever, and that yearbook-style backdrop is really killing your vibe. Or maybe you wish your marketing looked less like posing for selfies and more like showing up intentionally, with photos that help move the needle in your business forward. Or maybe there’s just something missing from the way you build relationships with your clients online. You’re craving less fake and more Jim-to-your-Pam connections and inside jokes with your audience.
