I always get a little nervous about using the podcast to make a prediction because I’m positive 6-12 months from now, I will be wrong, and it will be documented forever. But that’s also kind of the fun of making predictions, right? I’m trying to let it be fun today, not overwhelming, as we talk about Instagram predictions for 2022!
At the time of this recording (late January 2022), Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, has been doing weekly videos announcing new features for Instagram and priorities for 2022. Something that Instagram has come out and said in the beginning of 2022 is that they are focusing on creating space for teens and creators. So, all of the changes that they have done so far and will continue to do in the future, are to make Instagram a space where teens and creators want to spend time and find value.
It has been really interesting, and there has been a lot of change in a short amount of time! In today’s episode, I’m diving into some of the changes and updates we’ve already seen, along with my personal Instagram predictions for 2022.
Here are some things discussed in this episode:
- New features in DMs
- New and expanded features with video creation
- Scheduling lives
- Beta testing the subscription feature
- Custom feeds (home, favorites, following)
- Content repurposing and collaborating
- Memes and gifs
- Repurposing content into different types of posts
- Continued growth of video and using reels within your business
- More business owners experimenting on places like TikTok
- Monetizing on Instagram
- Close friends feature
A few highlights from this episode:
[8:32] – I think at this point, we’re trying to figure out other ways to keep what we’re doing fresh and in front of people without creating 20,000 pieces of content every single week.
[9:50] – For those of us who are constantly creating a lot of content, memes and gifs are a really great way to kind of connect with your people and add some humor to your feed without having to film a reel for 20 minutes.
[10:48] – We are being asked to create a lot of content. And I think a lot of us are waving the BS flag, like we don’t have time. We simply do not have time to create the amount of content that Instagram would prefer us to create, so this (repurposing) is a great way to really drive home the topics that you like to talk about on social media, that you like to educate on, that you want to be a thought leader in.
[12:24] – Reels can be done in such a great way that fits your brand I would say 99% of the time. You don’t have to conform to reels. You can make the reels work for you and for your business.
These are my predictions for Instagram for 2022! I love using Instagram to share content and connect with others, and I’m excited for this year ahead to see what new features roll out and how they impact creators. As I mentioned in the episode, video is already being pushed so much, so if you haven’t started experimenting yet, I encourage you to give it a try! If you are looking for more guidance, I have a free guide all about creating reels, which you can access here.
